Spirit Music, one of the world’s leading independent music publishers, celebrated HARDY’S Independent Spirit Award win at the 2026 AIMP (Association for Independent Music Publishers) Nashville Country Awards earlier this month at Analog at the Hutton Hotel. The prestigious honor is given to an individual who embodies and represents the independent music community, awarded when the membership identifies someone whose work truly matches this mission.
“One of the highest honors in this town is having a bunch of people you love believe in you,” shares HARDY. “Thank you so much Nashville and AIMP.”
The AIMP Awards recognize the past year’s biggest hits written and promoted solely by Nashville’s independent publishing companies and its songwriters. HARDY’S win follows 2025’s announcement of Spirit Music’s addition of the multi-PLATINUM hitmaker and four-time ACM award-winning country superstar, including a powerful exclusive co-publishing agreement.
“It’s hard to imagine a more deserving recipient of this award than HARDY. Throughout all his career growth and successes, he has continued pouring into the community of independent writers and publishers,” says Derek Wells, Spirit Music VP A&R and Production, Nashville. “All of us at Spirit Music are so proud to be his INDEPENDENT publishing partners. Cheers, pal!”
HARDY is “a high concept craftsman” (The New Yorker), producing “some of the most intriguing music to emerge from Nashville in years” (SPIN). Owning the intersection of country and rock, his latest album COUNTRY! COUNTRY! doubles down – 20 hard-charged originals that are “like much of HARDY’s work, surprising…For HARDY, part of the point is to keep you guessing” (Rolling Stone). Alternative Press declares him “the newest ambassador of the provocative crossover between two seemingly contradicting camps: trailer-park honky-tonk and head-thrashing metal.” COUNTRY! COUNTRY! adds to over 8 BILLION career streams, followed by newest single “McArthur,” a generation-spanning feat of storytelling, helmed, and written by HARDY alongside Tim McGraw, Eric Church, and Morgan Wallen.
The pride of Philadelphia, Mississippi has earned his reputation as “a promising purveyor of keeping the spirit of classic heavy Southern rock alive” (American Songwriter), “capable of writing the big hits for radio, obstinate enough to do something completely unexpected, and savvy enough to find the throughline for it all” (Rolling Stone). A 5X ACM award winner, 2X CMA award winner, 3X CMA Triple Play award recipient, 3X AIMP Songwriter of the Year winner, and the 2022 BMI Country Songwriter of the Year – HARDY is “one of Nashville’s most prolific, versatile voices, a songwriter and artist who can put forth a twangy country anthem as easily as a bone-rattling rock song.” (Billboard).
