Derek Wells
Derek Wells is an award-winning producer, guitarist, music executive, and musical director with credits on over 125 #1 Singles equating over 65 BILLION Streams. His career spans some of the most successful records, artists, and live productions in contemporary music.
A four-time ACM Award winner and CMA Award winner, Wells was recognized as a producer of HARDY featuring Lainey Wilson’s “wait in the truck,” which earned Musical Event of the Year honors at both award shows. Additionally, he has delivered multiple No. 1 singles for Scotty McCreery (“This Is It”), Maddie & Tae (“Die From a Broken Heart”), and HARDY (“Truck Bed.”)
Equally accomplished as a musician, Wells is a four-time MusicRow Magazine Guitar Player of the Year and has played on No. 1 records for artists including Post Malone, Luke Combs, Ella Langley, Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, and many others.
Beyond the studio, Wells has served as musical director for major live productions and artists, including Post Malone’s F1 Trillion and Big Ass Stadium world tours as well as TV productions like Stand Up To Cancer, The Grand Ole Opry’s 100th Anniversary and The ACM Honors. In 2025, he made history with Malone by serving as musical director for the only act in history to ever headline both the Coachella and Stage Coach Festivals.
Wells’ work also extends into music for brands and advertising. Most recently, he produced Chevrolet’s “See the USA in Your Chevrolet” national ad campaign featuring artist Brooke Lee.
In 2019, Wells entered a publishing joint venture with Spirit Music that also saw him assume a roll on the A&R team. Now Vice President at Spirit, he has overseen the signing of writers like David Garcia, Ryan Beaver, Kasey Tyndall and HARDY.
A long time industry contributor, Wells has served on the Board of Directors for both the ACM and CMA’s for over a decade and is a previous member of the Grammy Board of Governors.
